year is almost over… post your TOP 5

doesnt even gotta be in order.
has been filled with shitty sequels/3rd episodes (shrek/spidey/fantastic four), overhyped gore fests (hostel/hills have eyes/28weeks), big dumb summer movies (transformers/bourne), and shit comedy (wild hogs/rush hour).

so here’s my top 5 so far this year…
1. ratatouille
2. superbad
3. 300
4. hatchet (released in 2006, but never got distributed until 2007)
5. eastern promises

honorable mention: grindhouse, black book, lives of others, shoot em up (dumb fun with 3 of my favorite actors), fracture (hopkins playing a caricature of lecter), disturbia (hitchcock’s rear window meets goosebumps )

pan’s labyrinth missed the cut by 2 days

i still need to see, 30 days of night, assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford, into the wild, american gangster, and No country for old men.
hot fuzz
grindhouse (due to planet terror, not deathproof)
transformers (not a great year for movies cause i didn’t think this was that damn good)
28 weeks later
oceans 13 (not great, but i enjoyed anyway, and 2007 sucked for movies)

most overrated piece of shit
knocked up
spiderman 3
pirates of caribean3
bourne ultimatum
etc
etc
etc
1. Eastern Promises
2. Rescue Dawn
3. The Bourne Ultimatum
4. 3:10 to Yuma
5. Superbad

300
Transformers
The Lives of Others
3:10 To Yuma

interesting about your grindhouse opinion. i liked the planet terror for the dumb fun of zombies.
yet, i liked the dialogue and dry humor of the characters interaction in death proof. totally different movies that should be appreciated for completely different reasons.

1. Eastern Promises
2. Rescue Dawn
3. The Bourne Ultimatum
4. 3:10 to Yuma
5. Superbad

Most overrated:

300
Transformers

whats your beef with 300?
did you see it on your own accord after watching the previews or did you watch because everyone else told you it was a must see?
alot of times for me i notice that the expectations i have going into a movie, have an impact on my opinion afterwards.

i expected transformers to really suck since i cant stand michael bey… and yet, somehow he was able to deliver and made the movie suck even more than i expected.

i loved planet terror, i’m a sucker for zombie movies

death proof just bored me to death, i know it was done that way on purpose to mimic the cheap 70’s movies but i don’t like those movies either lol
planet terror was fun enough it made up for it though, any stupid zombie type movie will have me giggling like a kid i admit it lol

i see 300 made a list as being a shit movie, i almost put it on my shit list as well but it escaped by an inch, it just seemed like a weak plot homosexual version of gladiator to me, just a bunch of sweaty shirtless greeks that spend 3 hours a day in golds gym before fighting to the death lol. the first 20 minutes was interesting then it just sort of became too shirtless shaved and muscular man meat focused for my taste
but since the movie made a gazillion dollars im sure i’m the weird one cause most people seemed to love it

and yuma, i say just watch the original it was better anyway
grindhouse
superbad
ratatouille

i have bourne sitting on my dresser and i’ve been meaning to watch it, along with 3:10

hatchet was awesome, but top 5?

Yeah nigga. Hatchet top 5.
Variety of kill scenes.
This is the new shit as a continual montra.
And many things about the villian kept secret.
In no particular order:

The Lookout
Disturbia
Transformers
The Last Mimzy (did he just say the last mimzy?! - not only did my little cousin enjoy it, but I did as well)
Seraphim Falls

And I also loved Blades Of Glory, sure it was a dumb comedy, but I laughed my ass off.

I’ve been so busy this year, I just haven’t had time to go to theaters…so I rent most of the movies I’ve seen…so I’ve really only seen the movies that were released in the first half of the year.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon ( i saw it in 06 but didnt get distributed till 07 i think.
superbad
300
the kingdom
Reign over me

not in any order.
The Darjeeling Limited
Superbad

haven’t seen many new films this year
1. Bourne Ultimatum
2. Zodiac
3. Ratatouille
4. 3:10 to Yuma
5. 28 Weeks Later

need to see: Eastern Promises, American Gangster, a couple others
American Gangster is a must see. Just watched it and it was .

1. Bourne Ultimatum
2. Zodiac
3. Ratatouille
4. 3:10 to Yuma
5. 28 Weeks Later

need to see: Eastern Promises, American Gangster, a couple others

zodiac? really? it didnt have an ending. it barely had a beginning. i felt like it just drudged on and on and there wasn’t any closure at the end.
3:10 to Yuma
Superbad
300
Oceans 13
Simpsons :P

well.. it didn’t really have any closure in real life either

I thought it was very well done in how it kept you guessing and such. I was also quite interested in seeing history played out as well
superbad
bourne
28 weeks later
knocked up
saw 4
harry potter 5 (only one? i guess no one is a potter fan)
grindhoue (both films)
hot fuzz
30 Days of Night

here’s my problem with 300: it killed the best line in the film

- Our arrows will block out the sun
- Then we will fight in the shade (<— best line)

later on the the movie

guys laughing
- what’s so funny?
- we’re fighting in the shade

every screen writer knows what the best line of their film is going to be. You don’t destroy that by making it a joke.
Superbad
Disturbia
Bourne Ultimatum
Hot Fuzz
Next

Honorable Mention:
Shooter, 1408

Haven’t seen 3:10 to Yuma or American Gangster yet, but those could possibly change the list.
01. Into the Wild
02. The Darjeeling Limited
03. Away From Her
04. 3:10 to Yuma
05. Waitress
not in order:
hot fuzz
3:10 to yuma
28 weeks later
300

haven’t seen the others
The best:

american gangster
300
superbad
1408
knocked up
good luck chuck (really did not have much expectations, but i laughed my ass off the whole movie)
black snake moan
harry potter order of phoenix (seemed more for the ‘matured’ audience this time)
bourne ultimatum
transformers (really over-hyped, but thought was good)
the number 23 (i thought was good, but probably only one)

Worst:

Pirates of caribean (story is over, they just are making sequels for money now)
balls of fury (terrible humor, just was not funny)
hot rod (too much like napolean dynamite, there can only be one napolean)
norbit
hannibal rising

tons more terrible movies…
Apocalypto
Pirates III
Knocked up
Spiderman III
Harry potter

i thought that line made it even funnier and more awesome.

and they knew that movie is filled with tons of great lines.

1. Bourne Ultimatum
2. Zodiac
3. Ratatouille
4. 3:10 to Yuma
5. 28 Weeks Later

need to see: Eastern Promises, American Gangster, a couple others

after seeing everything I wanted to see, my top 10 would be:

1. Bourne Ultimatum
2. No Country for Old Men
3. There Will Be Blood
4. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
5. Once (released in 2006 but didn’t get to award season until 2007)
6. Ratatouille
7. Zodiac
8. Michael Clayton
9. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
10. Hot Fuzz

if you don’t count Once then add in Diving Bell & the Butterfly
Was Hot Fuzz really that good? I loved Shaun of the Dead, but this seemed like a lame rehash with uniforms instead of zombies, kinda like Club Dread was an incredibly lackluster addition to the Broken Lizard set of movies.

In no particular order:

The Lookout
Disturbia
Transformers
The Last Mimzy (did he just say the last mimzy?! - not only did my little cousin enjoy it, but I did as well)
Seraphim Falls

update:
The Lookout
Transformers
Seraphim Falls
Eastern Promises
Michael Clayton

Also liked Gone Baby Gone, Assassination Of Jesse James, and Sunshine.

Still haven’t seen a lot of the Oscar contenders (but want to):
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Juno
Atonement
and more…

I thought Shaun of the Dead was kinda lame really

To me Hot Fuzz was fresh and actually had a decent plot
I really liked the idea of a couple of regular guys trying to deal with zombies the only way they can. The entire movie, my friend and I are like "that would so be us" and it’s hilarious.
