What are your favorite Stephen King movies?

Horror/Thriller ones that is. After my girlfriend and I saw The Mist, I asked her what Stephen King movies she’s seen and I guess she hasn’t even seen Pet Semetary! There’s a few I haven’t seen either but I’m just curious what everyone’s favorites are so I get some suggestions.
The Shining is by far the best Stephen King movie…Pet Semetary was okay, most of the others are complete shit.

I guess 1408 was decent.
The original made for TV movie for Salem’s Lot. It was actually a mini-series and for it’s time (1979), it was pretty spooky. David Soul and Lance Kerwin (James at 16) - did a pretty good job. Because it was a mini series it pretty much matched the book. The re-make made for TV movie with Rob Lowe…sucked.

i tried to get her to watch the shining but it was freaking her out too much. it was late at night and when a creepy part came along, she would close her eyes and fall asleep i’m gonna have to make her man up this week.
The Shinning was my favorite then it would have to be 1408.
It’s kinda funny that Stephen King hated the Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining - considered a classic by most - because it deviated so much from the book. He hated it so much that he wrote the teleplay of the HORRIBLE TV version that they made back in 1997. If anyone saw it…all 273 minutes of it…you would have been praying for “Jack” to ax his family to death and get it over with.
I’d have to say I thought the Mist was pretty badass and for you non horror lovers Shawshank is a classic
Shawshank. I don’t think I’ve liked any of his other movies.

hell yeah. i watched it when it was on TV and haven’t seen it since but i downloaded it the other day. just waiting on an evening where i have 3 hours to spare to watch it.
maximum overdrive (sort of a guilty pleasure, i know it’s a pretty stupid movie)
shawshank
1408

The Pacific War

come on over here, sugar buns! this machine just called me an asshole!

That one had the dude from wings in it didnt it?

.

read Cell in the summer hope it’ll be a good movie

If you liked Cell, go back to the original world ender The Stand. Great book, better than Cell by a long shot.

Movies - Shawshank, The Shining, The Stand mini was ok
The Shining sucked, let me be the first and only person to say it.

Shawshank Redemption is relatively unquestionably the best film based on his work, although I hear the adaptation takes a great deal of literary license with the original material, after all a short story of 20ish pages turned into a 200 page screenplay.

Stand By me is a very close adaptation as the story is only a novella. An excellent flick.
the stand
shawshank
the mist was pretty fuckin good, though i don’t recall norton being black in the book.

Stand By me is a very close adaptation as the story is only a novella. An excellent flick.[/quote]
No particular order, but these are probably the better of the bunch:

The Shinning
The Mist
1408
Shawshank Redemption
Green Mile
Christine
Pet Semetary

Forgot to add Stand by Me.

The Langoliers was a piece of shit, well the story was good, the FX just killed it.
It, but only the first part, not the part when they all grow up.
The Green Mile is probably the best adaptation of a stephen king novel.

But im sorry i really liked Dreamcatcher cause aliens scare the shit out of me
Based on novellas: Mist and The Langoliers .. the books are a lot better btw

I thought Needful Things was good in a creepy kinda way.
The Shinning was good but The Stand was corny
I can’t watch Pet Cementary and enjoy it due to my weird connection with animals.

that shit had almost nothing to do with a book. utter fucking failure of a movie
Green Mile
Shawshank
Creepshow
Maximum Overdrive
Stand by me aka The Body
The Mist
Carrie
Cujo
Stand - Mini Series

Plus a few more I have forgotten

Yep… all of his horror stories are hacked to pieces, and end up as disappointments.
EDIT: Salem’s Lot was fucking great when it first aired… scared the shit out of me, as a kid. Too bad it was made for TV, or I might still still be sleeping with the lights on…

I would add “Stand by Me” to the list of good movies evolved from stories.

As far as “The Shining”… this movie masterpiece has eclipsed the book. The disjointed story directed by Stanly Kubrick plays like a nightmare… more frighteningly disturbed than King’s own interpretation.
