The Fountain
amazing film, i could barely breath toward the end it was so captivating.
hmm.. i’ve been wanting to see it but i’m going to have to see it alone… i doubt anyone i know will be into it..
Sweet! can’t wait to see it. Been waiting since early 06
And ya, I prolly will too
The Fountain seems to be a movie that people seem to really like, or really hate
now I’m going to go see it
I read somehwhere that Darren Aronofsky (directed The Fountan) and Rachel Weisz (Isabel) are engaged. She was not even considered for the role until Hugh Jackman suggested it. Haven’t seen yet but she seems to be prefect for the part.
I thought it was pretty good, there is an article in Wired magazine about how the outer space effects were made. It was done by taking extremely zoomed in pictures of a drop of liquid hitting a pool of liquid.
I want to see it but it looks like I am the only one.
do go! you’ll love it
I saw it and loved it
How about we go see again together
Yeah, no kidding about that. People walked out of it when I went to watch it on opening night. As for myself, I enjoyed the movie.

awesome movie
the only reason people hate it is because they don’t get it |
lol, because most of it made no real sense. How ’bout you explain it for us?
The past wasn’t really the past, it was the story that Izzi was writing; basically it is her perception of things in the present in the form of a story. And the future was not really the future but instead a symbolic representation of Tom’s life, aka his perception; in a bubble isolating himself from civilization caring only for the tree which represented Izzi, his reason and purpose he lives. The present was the only time period that actually existed. I think what they wanted you to take from this movie was a new way to look at life and death in how it relates to the fountain of youth or living forever.
Saw it opening weekend, no reaction. Weeks later, no reaction.
Saw it tonight. Really liked it. A somewhat old couple walked out of it. I felt sorry for the wife– the husband was all like "this is gibberish. i don’t get it," so they ended up leaving.
i interpreted that the death of the guy’s wife in the current timeline lead to him discovering a way to live forever, which lead to the future timeline. i think both of these stories are one and the same. izzy of the future timeline is in fact the same tree that he planted on her grave, and unfortunately it/she dies right as they get to the center of that nebula. i think this is the moment the guy finally realizes how he needs to end her story, the fountain. he probably realizes that immortality isn’t everything, and life is more than that balh blah etc etc balh blaah
so many interpretations of the film, I dont understand why no one likes it.
I loved it, the film superceded all of Darrens past work.
to follow up on what you said, yes izzy is the tree. He planted the seed of the tree that he discovered, that if you eat the bark you live longer. the tatts on his arms were markings of years that passed. He finishes the book with Thomas slicing that guy’s throat and dying from the tree of life.
I need to rewatch the movie again.
This movie was not what I expected but it was a decent flick. Especially if you want to jerk some tears out of the woman and make her snuggle your cock for a few hours. It was pretty emo though, lots of angst and pretty far out there in terms of reality so we have a sci-fi romance story with a side of action/adventure? The acting was well done however the stories (more than one) were too disjoint at times. It’s probably hit or miss for most people, I didn’t like it but it but that doesn’t make it a bad movie.
6/10 from me
just got home from seeing it.
i cried and smiled at the same time, the film was so damn beautiful both visually and emotionally.
aronofsky is a genius.
I loved it, though I hated the other two Aronofsky movies.
I can understand people hating it – some might not get it, that’s OK. Some might get it and hate it – I got both Pi and Requiem, they just weren’t my thing. I don’t think it’s a movie where you can be a snob and say ‘well you just didn’t understand it.’ It’s not like that. It’s just a piece of art that some people like and some don’t. I enjoyed this one.
i feel bad for anyone who walked out
I loved it, then hated, then loved, then hated, and then finally loved
I completely agree that it was a fantastic film.
It’s really too bad that it was slammed by the critics.
Not only that, but it was also snubbed at the Oscars.
God damn them.
i think this has become my new favorite film….half of those that see it dont understand it and flat out hate it….the rest are left breathless and stumbling…
amazing imo.
How about Clint Mansell’s score? Jesus Christ I haven’t stopped listening to it since November.
in my opinion this was one of the worst movies ive seen.
HD dvd and dvd combo on order. May 15th release date I believe.
I thought the movie was great. I loved the special effects and the colors were nice.
i felt like i was on the edge of "getting it" the entire movie, but by the end i honestly have to say i didn’t get it. so i’m gonna watch it again.
I don’t like it, but then again I hate aronofsky. I didn’t know it was him until the credits, but still, I strongly dislike his movies. Especially Pi, that movie was terrible. And Requiem is quite possibly the most over-rated movie ever.
Why was he unable to get a piece of bark off at the end?
I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival last September. Just a day or two earlier it had it’s World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival and got booed! It seemed most of the Toronto audience loved it though, myself included.
I love that everyone you talk to who enjoyed the film got a different interpretation out of it. Aranofsky doesn’t go out of his way to explain his vision, he tells the story and lets the viewer get what they want out of it. Very much makes this a "personal" movie, and alot of people don’t want that.
I just finished watching it, and thought it was amazing.
I understand the basic premise of the film, although it’s definitely up to more than one interpretation (I’m also going with the "the past is her book" version, and the "the tree in the future was a tree of life created by planting a tree on top of the grave" interpretation as this makes the most sense based on the extensive lead-up through Izzi’s dialog.)
Still a lot of specifics I either still don’t get or just missed, so I’m sure I’ll be re-watching it in the future (such as, why did the ring disappear in the present? What was the deal with the different objects appearing in the center of the crucifix in the past? etc etc)…
I just got this on dvd because I was told it was about the quest for the fountain of youth and I remembered an old trailer I saw that made it seem adventure-filled.
I was pleasantly surprised at how poignant and philosophically personal the movie was. The music and visuals really impressed me, regardless of all my confusion.
However I can see why it isn’t popular, it is too deep for most viewers who use movies as entertainment, not that that’s wrong.
This movie was amazing. So good in so many ways. I suggest anyone on here that hasn’t seen it, go see it.
Another awesome movie that i would lump in with this movie is an anime called Mind Game. Don’t let the fact that it is an anime deter you, it really is an amazing movie.
