The Dark Knight

I am seeing it in IMAX in 3 hours and cannot wait, I’m literally freaking out (huge Batman franchise fan here). Anywho, I will post back with my feelings trying to be as completely fair as possible
Damn lucky you got imax tickets! Ima see it soon too at a regular theater FTL. Damnit i cant wait man its going to be great!
luckyyyy

I will be seeing it at imax saturday night (ordered tickets a few weeks ago and now their sold out woot)
It doesn’t come out to IMAX where I am until the 29th. I’m seeing it at 3:15 am (5 and a half hours from now) in a standard theater. Chances are that I will see it again on Saturday with family. Then at least once more on IMAX.

damn dude take it easy

calm down bro
Wow, just…OMG. It was literally everything I could have wanted in a movie and more. I was literally gasping and interested for 2 and 1/2 hours (which is unbelievable for me). There was never a dull moment, a pointless shot or storyline, nothing. Everything about this movie was spectacular from the acting, plot line, message….just wow.

And BTW, seeing it in IMAX was the greatest and best way to see it. You feel like you are on tops of these building flying down, in the cars chasing, it’s insane. The comedy is spot on. I personally enjoyed how dark and realistic Nolan’s take was. I know some critics were pissed because it’s just not the typical hokey “comic book” movie, but I don’t even care, it was just all around a great film.

Two Face/Harvey Dent? Great. His character is described so well and to wathc him transform is almost heartbreaking. His face deformation…fucking incredible work.

Ledger…so sad the man is dead before he gets to experience the greatness that would have been his following. He’s in the movie the perfect amount of time. Just enough so that when he’s not on screen you crave him. He’s so likable yet twisted and terrible. Amazing acting on his part, he really took on the role more than I can think of any other actor taking on a role.

I don’t care how much people are hyping it, it’s worth it.

x11ty

Imax is the only way.
Soo true…. The movie was awesome! Guys do yourselves a favor and watch it.
I just got back, and I obsolutely fucking agree. This is easily the best movie I have seen in a very long time. Everything was spot on.
Aaron Eckhart really blew me away. I mean, Heath Ledger was pretty damn-near genius, that goes without saying, but Eckhart sort of surprised me. I’ve only seen him play more-or-less happy-go-lucky characters before, so to see him play Dent like that..

Also.. “I’m going to make this pencil disappear.” Incredible.

I agree, he will definitely be shadowed by Ledger, but his performance was incredible.
Apparently im the only one who caught the eminem reference in the movie….

Maybe you were the only one interested in eminem references when everyone else is interested in the quality of the movie?
My ex-girlfriend was in the same theater, a few rows up from me, with the guy she cheated on me with. I stayed for the entire movie.

There’s no way that would have ever happened unless it was amazing, there aren’t 2 other people in the world I’d rather not be in a room with. Especially Heath Ledger’s performance, Jesus Christ.
I saw it, but what suprised me was the immovable object + unstoppable force reference.
I don’t know what to say. I didn’t really dig the first one, Batman Begins. It was good but not the epic status people tend to give it.

However, The Dark Knight was AMAZING, and in my opinion it’s all because the main characters had to limp Bale along…seriously, the dark voice just contrasts too much from bruce wayne.

Ledger was epic, I seriously can’t think of someone playing a character and bringing soooo much life to it…His role as the joker will definitely stay ranked as one of the top performances I’ve ever seen, I’m not really a stickler for acting.
The movie was so good. I’ll probably be seeing it again this weekend.
Well guys, I gotta admit I was pretty disappointed overall.

I’m too tired to type it out right now, will make a thread about it tomorrow.
It wasn’t that great, stop the unnecessary sack riding of this movie. I think its over-hyped due to Ledgers death. Albeit, great performance, NOT Oscar worthy so get that off your minds. I enjoyed it, but does NOT compare to any classic cinema, past or present.

Its just eye candy
I caught the eminem reference, and I liked the unstopable force / moving object line as well.
I don’t care that the guy is dead, I wanted to see the movie far before his death, but I love how those who didn’t like the movie all choose this as if it’s the real reason people are seeing it No one in here said it was Oscar-worthy, calm yourself. The only way he’d win an Oscar is if this hype over him stayed around for another 6 months+, but that won’t happen so don’t worry. I’m sure some actor with a subpar performance in a drama will win it…

Who cares if it’s eye candy? It was amazingly entertaining eye candy and for that it deserves credit.

And yes, Eckhart was great.

Most people wanted to see this movie far before Ledger died.
I assume that was sarcasm

Do you know how Oscars are voted on? Its not by popularity of the public, its voted by the Academy, and do you know who makes up the Academy?

Also, I enjoyed the movie, but its nothing more than an action movie. By Ledger’s death is certainly driving more people to the box office whether you believe it or not and it also driving more hype for his performance. It happens a lot.
see just as i suspected the hype is all about Ledger.
It was a little long. The cell phone tracking thing or whatever was corny.

but Chicago looked awesome in this movie.

yes and no, he played the part really well.

One person says that on Offtopic so it must be true!

Pretty much everyone I know that is excited about this movie was pumped long before Ledger died.

Is Ledger’s death making the hype bigger? Sure. But, this movie would be hyped a lot even if he were still alive.
it was better than the 1st, the whole imax thing wasnt doing it for me. Maybe it’ll be better in the regular theater

Accept the movie for what it is. I mean no one in here really came in here going “THS MOVIE DESERVES BEST PICTURE” so I just don’t get your response off the bat. It is an action movie, there’s no doubt about it, but that’s why it’s so impressive that the acting is excellent and it doesn’t just have some bullshit typical action movie message. It has heart.

And my point about Ledger possibly being nominated was that even if it is the academy who votes if people keep hype up for months until the voting goes on that makes a fucking difference, whether you want to believe it or not. He might get nominated or he might not but I can’t thnk of any other actor in the past few months that impressed me as much for a supporting actor role

naw i was being serious
SPOILER
The early scene with the joker “Do you know how I got these scars” and he starts talking about his dad. . I was fucking terrified. Nailed the role.

Yeah and then again about his “wife”

Too bad two-face almost tarnished whole thing

It is not over-hyped for me because of Ledger’s death. I was just as hyped about this movie before he died as after. And the movie exceeded my expectations. Oh, and Batman’s voice is perfect.

Seriously guys. This movie deserves a Best Picture nomination.

Great Movie overall. I loved it.

Every actor in it did a fantastic job.

From Bruce to Gordon.

I’m actually going to watch it a 2nd time.

Apparently you are too young to realize that M&M borrowed that famous phrase from a game show called “To Tell the Truth”.

wrong. I know many people that vote for the Academy and they are NOT influenced by hype, critics reviews, box office revenue, etc. etc. etc.

You can’t think of any other actor that has impressed you because quite possibly the range of your movie viewing doesn’t go beyond what is recommended by the hype.

The reason why many of the movies that get nominated and those actors apart of them get nominated, people never hear of or go see is because these movies like “Batman” fund the studios and give the basic, elementary public what they want so the studio/filmmakers have the money to make the good movies.

face it, Ledger won’t be nominated, he won’t be mentioned come the fall and the movies released later will overshadow anything other than the box office that Batman had done.

The acting, was par at best in this picture. This picture is a far cry from any “Best Picture” nomination. Sorry to disappoint.

im pretty sure it wasnt a wow refrence
This movie was excellent. I had extremely high expectations for it and usually that means I get very disappointed. THis movie actually exceeded my expectations.

Heath Ledger may have very well made one of the best performances in movie history. This has nothing to do with his death but he played a role that is extremely difficult and made it real. I still cant believe that any actor could pull that off. Outstanding.
I was completely blown away by this movie, and I cannot stand movies based off comic books. I honestly want to go watch it again right now.

I think Heath Ledger gave the performance of his lifetime.
Watched it last night.

I did NOT feel the 2.5 hours in that seat. Eckhart has my vote as being ABSOLUTELY AWESOME as Dent. The way he playedthat charachter that goes from being a bright light of hope and then disolves into a man broken and enraged. fucking fantastic.

Leger as the joker made me pee. Seriously, i peed. And not becaus eit’s him or he’s dead, but the best performance he could’ve ever put together for the character. the movement of this hands, mouth and tongue sealed the deal for me, then his pitch and tone changes with his voice took it over the top. Awesome.

Gary Oldman is my longtime love, and he didn’t disappoint as Gordon.

Bale did a great jb Playing millionaire playboy + batman + broken Bruce Wayne. fucking great.

Kudos to Chris Nolan for having the balls to go that dark, I actually said to teh BF during the movie “This is PG13?” I like how they wrote Batman as continuously riding the line where we feel like he’s going out of control, and then he reigns himself in. I definately liked how I didn’t ever feel like “this is too weird to be real” it was so grounded inteh true evil AND good that people do really possess inthe world. there ARE people just out there willing to wreck everything, wanting to create chaos and fear, and there are those of us who wouldn’t buckle under the pressure and do the right things.

I was thoroughly entertained, and i can’t wait to get see it in Imax once tickets are available

This must have been one of the most arrogant and pretentious posts I’ve ever read on the internet.
Saw it on IMAX last night. That shit was fucking nuts.
imax was amazing

I had perfect seat, dead center, near the back

Every second he was in frame I was absolutely memorized. Makes all the other jokes look like child’s play.

So sad that he’s gone.
So there are talks about the next villian…catwoman (the comment by Fox about Batman’s suit), and the Riddler (the guy who tried to expose batman but failed.) Could be pretty sweet and ever DARKER than this one
I’ll delete my other thread…I admit after discussing it here, IMDB, with friends and everyone else I was being way too nitpicky.

After my 2nd viewing I think I will feel much differently.

and Heath’s performance in this will be remembered forever…I was speechless

Ok, faggot.

Sounds like a fucking tool
Although it will most likely go down, The Dark Knight has moved up to the #1 spot on IMDb’s top 250 list; beating out The Godfather.

I haven’t seen any movie ever do this. Even if it is just temporary, it is quite amazing.
30 more mins and heading out to IMAX showing.

I’ve been answering all my mobile calls with, “Spoil DK and you’re a dead man. So, what’s up?”
Just got back from seeing

hot damn hell yeah amazing movie

I was hypnotized by Leger’s performance. I love the closeups of his face. Everything he did showed he was truly in character but what really shocked me was how demented he looked when you looked at his eyes.

I’m going to see it tomorrow with another group of friends and then possibly next weekend to an IMAX theater in Georgia.
Saw it this morning… love it. Magic trick + nurse scenes = epic lolz
Thought the movie was overrated. Not as good as Batman Begins at all. Didn’t need to be that long, either.
Good movie. Ledger’s performance is overhyped though. He did an above average job and brought a lot to the character, but this isn’t the end-all-be-all performance IMHO. Nolan needs to work on his transitioning though. It seemed some scenes ended prematurely or the scene location would jump around with little explanation. Well above anything that Hollywood is pumping out these days.

And I agree about Eckhart’s performance, he did a better acting job than Ledger IMHO.

The last shot of the nurse scene was incredible. I was going to say that it was possibly one of the better Joker shots in general, but then I realized I couldn’t really think of any that were less amazing than all of the others.

I’ll delete my other thread…I admit after discussing it here, IMDB, with friends and everyone else I was being way too nitpicky.

After my 2nd viewing I think I will feel much differently.

Glad you realized it. I didnt get to read the thread after i posted.
Am I the only one who thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was ugly as hell during the entire movie? Bad lighting?

I don’t understand how people say this about Eckhart’s performance being better than Ledger’s. A couple times throughout the movie when he was SOOO enraged and screamed random words, it reminded me of the horrible acting done by Cary Elwes in the first Saw. Overall, he too had a great performance, but these couple scenes were borderline laughable.

totally agree

Enjoy this for what its worth is really all I’m saying.

Anyone who says that Ledgers performance was the best in movie history, my question to them is: have you ever watched any other movie, ever?

No one said that it was the best performance ever in movie history. However, it was a great performance and you could really tell how commited he was to the role.

He was good. Nothing earth shattering.

sorry to disappoint? like we’re all reading this post going.. “oh shit this shitty movie elitist doesn’t think it’ll get best picture. guess it won’t.. that sucks.”

quit trying to be above everyone else with your ass opinions.

I never thought she was hot… so yeah, I agree.
the movie fuckin rocked. i thought it was on par with begins. could have been darker but way beyond what i’d expected.
Uhh, ledgers acting was a bit overhyped…but other than that it was an entertaining movie. I kind of feel like a sucker for buying a ticket.

My brother saw it today, along with other friends, and the same friends I saw it with the first time all feel the same way still

We’ll see how I feel after my 2nd viewing
the movie was

heath’s performance was epic imo.

I already said from the beginning I enjoyed it or what it is and never said a thing about it being “the best in movie history”

How much darkness do you want? I thought it was pretty bleak. Can’t wait to see again.

Enjoy this for what its worth is really all I’m saying.

Anyone who says that Ledgers performance was the best in movie history, my question to them is: have you ever watched any other movie, ever?

I watch a ton of movies all the time and I have never seen anyone come close to putting on a performance like that. Never.
I just saw The Dark Knight on bootleg. all can i say that it was a great movie. i loved the whole Joker thing, terrorist style blowin shit up. Look forward to it on DVD.

Sorry that you’re so short sighted.

How about, as of more recently, Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood,

Sean Penn in Mystic River

for sake of argument, Ledgers performance in Brokeback Mountain was better. Phil Hoffman in Capote…? c’mon

Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon

George C. Scott in Patton

Peter O’Toole in Lawrence of Arabia

there’s plenty out there.

I’m short-sighted for my opinion? Well, then you are short-sighted for yours. That’s a ridiculous statement.

All of the acting jobs you list are very good. I still dont think any of them come close to what Ledger did here. Most all of the roles you listed are regular men. Ledger took an unrealistic character and made it completely real. I still have a hard time believing that it was an actor playing that role. That is the one and only time that has ever happened in a movie, atleast for me.

Really? Alot of the things that many people found enjoyable about Ledger as the Joker, I found somewhat annoying. The lip licking being the most glaring example. That’s just my opinion.

Well yes, the definition of short-sighted in this regard is reflective of your opinion, which of course you’re entitled to and I’m entitled to give mine.

I would like to know, what basis you’re forming your opinion on? What was it that made you believe this was one of the best performances in movie history?

To me, the aforementioned performances are based upon the actors ability to convey emotion through truth. I’m not so sure I witnessed Ledger giving an in depth display of emotion other than anger. I never saw (at least in one viewing) any sign of vulnerability of character, a weakness hidden behind emotion, except for the make up but again that was physical.

To support my argument, I will list again, Daniel Day Lewis’ performance in There Will Be Blood. His vulnerability, sign of a characters weakness held behind by his greed and through his son. What an amazing roller coaster of emotion, development of character and use of environment through performance. He made you believe in his loyalty to family which is why the ending came so shockingly. Simply amazing.

naw just bad face

An actor’s job is to make you believe that they are the character that they are playing and not an actor.

So, I would judge how someone does in an acting job by how much they made be believe that they were that person. Difficulty of the role would also play a part in judging how good someone did.

Watching Ledger play the Joker is probably the first time ever that someone made me believe 100% that they were the character that they were playing. I have seen lots of good actors play roles but you can almost always see the actor at some point in the movie. No one has ever come close to being as deep into a role as Heath did. I never once saw Heath Ledger in the entire 2 1/2 hours of the movie and it had nothing to do with the makeup because I can see Heath cleary in all the promo pics.
The lip licking was due to the scars inside his cheeks. I dont see what makes any other role played by any other actor superior. Every nuance every detail in the jokers mannerisms stayed there throughout the movie, i dont remember heath breaking one thing. For the people who say his acting didnt live up to the hype what exactly were you hoping for? how could it have been a better portrayal? I think his portrayal was microscopic. Every scene with his face in it was a piece of photographic art. The way his eyes darted and blinked. He was perfect. And on top of all the psychotic antics he still managed to be funny as hell.

The complainers are just doing what they do.

The lip licking was weak. Now that you explained it it makes more sense but I still think he coulda did it better. Great performance, great flick

ever seen someone who has that sort of lick?

went to school for a few years with a very weird kid and it was identical — obviously the kid did it unconsciously

I got the chills when I saw him do it because it reminded me of this psycho

Johnny Depp did just this in Pirates. I think the actors planeh listed all did excellent jobs in their respective films and I believe that they were faced with a harder task than Ledger was. They had to become convinving ordinary people which is harder than becoming a very eccentric character with no real-world basis like the Joker. Basically what I mean to say is that since the Joker you see in the movie is the only Joker you’ve had any experience with in your life it’s much easier to be drawn into the performance. On the other hand you’ve met tons of regular people and thus you can immediately pick out a performance which isn’t really genuine, a performance that for one reason or another just doesn’t feel right.
i think both the producers and heath just agreed to fake his death allowing him to live carefree and in paradise for the rest of his life on some private island and the producers get the ‘crow effect’ on a massive scale. He put in enough work in this role for a lifetime. He certainly deserved to retire after this and anything he wouldve done in the future wouldve lessened the masterpiece performance he had in this. After they sat back and watched the finish product they couldve easily come to this conclusion. Both parties profit from it immensely. Heath might even be getting a percentage of the profit. Im hoping that imagination whatever movie he did is scrapped. This was why he was put on earth.
I saw it on IMAX yesterday with the gf. Awesome awesome movie. Fucking spectacular.
Im quite impressed that its the top rated movie of all time on imbd.

Are you kidding me? In the opening scene we know right away he can’t handle violence upon him in 1 on 1 situations well and would rather avoid them, as he runs and hides from the bank guy with the shotgun.

Then at the charity party he runs from batman and lets his goons try and take him on, as he stands back and watches.

There are other instances that I can’t recall but it was obvious he knew he wasn’t physically cabaple are taking someone on in a fist fight.

EDIT: Him getting his ass beat by batman in the the interrogation room…instead of fighting back he just laughed. So sick

Im quite impressed that its the top rated movie of all time on imbd.

It will cool down… so many people raving about it now. I don’t see it being ranked #1 a year from now.
is most of the movie on a shrunk down screen besides the 35mins of “true Imax” which scrolls back out? or was it setup differently?

my dad does it, so my girlfriend was kinda taken aback when the joker did it.

This may sound elitist but what the hell

Your opinion is worth just as much the shit on my shoe. Please go back and read what I wrote again and again and again until it sinks in.

I can’t say enough good stuff about this movie.

And… wow, this is quite a statement for me. I’ve seen a lot of films, I have trouble finding new shit at DVD stores.

I think this is my favorite movie…

Exactly what you’re opinion is worth to us.

Wow, that is a statement!

I can’t believe it passed the Godfather on IMDB’s top 250 list Then again I think we all know it wll eventually slip. Still nuts though.
bump for answers

The master print of the 35mm they shot on is developed into a digital intermediate print onto the IMAX film. When the DI is done, digital frames are sent to a digital film recorder. each frame will be exposed, building a new digitally mastered “intermediate negative” or an intermediate positive making the transfer to IMAX without losing the resolution of the original print.

YOu sure know a lot about IMAX

I don’t know for sure because I have nothing to compare it to. But all I can say is that it looked fucking amazing.

The 35 film is scanned frame by frame by either a 2k or 4k scanner into a DI universe…you make it sound like a DI is an actual piece of film.

You talk like an elitist but don’t know too much do ya?

I’m sure you’ve worked with the P3? P2? Have a relationship with eastman? Fuji? What do you know about the 5242 color stock?

please…
^ Charming, piss off.

So, I’m going to go see it at some point, is it good for non-batman fans?
If I hadn’t already sat through the months of build up, the multiplying interest level because of Heath Ledger’s death, and all the hype before it even came out and walked into the theater without ever hearing a single thing about it, I would have been blown away. Instead, I’m satisfied and thought the actors put on a great performance.
The movie was pure genius. I couldn’t believe how amazing Heath Ledger did as the Joker. Christopher Nolan is a phenomenal director as well. Both of these Batman’s were masterpieces.

Yes, it is a good solid action flick!

A friend of mine went who has literally never enjoyed any of the Batman movies. He said this one was badass
For the person who asked if it was good for “non batman fans”, I would say yes, because really, I’m a Superman fan, and I really enjoyed this movie. I’ve never watched Spiderman, and some other films because I never cared to. This was in fact good.

And after the semi truck flips, on the right side, there is a FedEx Kinkos store, I just think that was nerdy to notice, because that’s where I work

[not that EXACT store]

anyway Greaaaaaaat movie
I’m seeing it not next week, but the week after, can’t wait!

Movie was great, heath ledgers performance makes me want to cry knowing he can’t make any more films.

My only negative i would say about the film was when bale was talking in that deep voice in the batman suit, it started to get really annoying after a while.

ALSO*** Why did he talk in the deep gay penis sucking voice when he was talking to people who knew his true identity like lucius or rachel???

Dude hes in char. When he becomes batman he isnt bruce wayne anymore. Im sure if you wore a badass suit and kick major ass you would be just as into char as bruce wayne is when hes batman. Make sense?

someone might overhear?

I fucking love that quote… I posted something in initiation about Dark Knight and the fact that it is such an interesting concept to think about…How crazy would it be if everyone just gave up on the law and started causing havoc just for the sake of “watching the world burn.” I said this in my other post, but I loved the social experiment with the two boats…(i wonder what people would do in reality?)

I also agree that whenever the joker wasn’t on screen, you definitely crave him… I am planning on seeing it again in the IMAX.. probably tomorrow if I can get tickets.

Saw it again the other night in a regular theater, I swear to god it was 10x better in IMAX. I bought my parents next weekend showing tix for the IMAX theater

I didn’t end up going the other day, but I’ve got tickets for tonight!! i’m so stoked

Great quote. It says so many things. First of all this is how a true sociopath thinks. The Joker isn’t an attention whore. He does it all for his own amusement and pleasure.
I still haven’t seen it yet and all my friends saw it already.

Go see it by yourself. Going to watch a movie in a dark theater that involves no interaction with another person is something that can be done by yourself. I actually went to see this movie by myself because all my friends went at other times.

there’s nothing wrong with going to the movies by yourself. I usually do that a lot.

I do too. Especially since my wive doesnt care for a lot of the movies I like. It is a nice way to get out of the house.
It was an alright movie but the “supporting” characters all carried Bale, never liked him as Batman.

Joker was brilliant though, so was dent

I hate nothign more than trying to decide what movie to go see and then figure out the time to go with a friend. WHen I want to see a movie I go when I want.
Anyone notice Bat Manuel was the Mayor? I wonder if the casting director enjoyed that joke.

I knew I knew that dude from somewhere. Good call.
