Sweeney Todd

Boring!
The film was well made but the songs took away from the action.
The acting was good, and the violence was graphic, but everytime things got hopping, they would burst into song.

Just not my cup of tea.
I give it a C+.
it was originally a musical.. so i suppose it helps knowing that before watching it

It was, but they aren’t selling it that way in the trailers.

And wasn’t it originally not a musical, just a straight play before Sondheim got ahold of it.

how do you mean they’re not selling it that way in the trailers…? Johnny Depp singing in the trailers didn’t hint to you it’s a musical?
i never saw a trailer with him singing only ones without singing

ah i see. well there is a trailer with him singing
I felt the same way when I walked out of the theater, but when I got home I wanted to see it again. I appreciate it more the more I think about it. I think I would enjoy much more if I were to go see it again.
I liked it, but I am a musical fan. You can’t go see it expecting a typical horror movie.
the songs were great. melodic, funny, and really helped push the story forward. the familiar images might be a bit of a distraction (the edward scissorhands/jack sparrow thing) but the direction from burton more than made up for it.

but all of that is meaningless if the story itself wasnt rock solid. a riviting tale of revenge & deceit with a conclusion that you do not see coming, and the songs & images stay with you long after the lights come back on.

i’m sorry you felt "duped" by the trailers, but i hope you give the film, or soundtrack, another go
Since I already talked a bit about it in the "recently viewed films" thread, I’ll keep this brief. Overall I liked it, but I really didn’t find it "too" graphi. I did like a lot of the songs and I do love that the actors did their own singing. As for a "rating" of my personal enjoyment, I give it a 7/10
I finally saw this and I thought it was a great movie. My gf and I both enjoyed it…and our movie tastes are pretty far apart.
Put me down for the great side of this too. I loved it
i enjoy an occational musical but this one was pretty meh
shitty plotline, bad songs, just very average overall
Me and the old lady loved it, she even downloaded the soundtrack.

Exactly! If the songs were better, I can enjoy a musical a lot more.

i don’t know what you were expecting, since it’s a musical.
