s rebuilding plans

Do you think Booth will be part of Tallon’s rebuilding plans? The Panthers signed free-agent forward Anthony Luciani to an entry-level contract and he will report to Rochester to play the final two games. He’s 20 and can score as indicated by his 29-49-78 point season for the OHL Eerie Otters this year. …Panthers leading scorer Stephen Weiss skated today in the Forum in Florida’s last practice of the season and will most likely play Friday night. However, the injury list added F Steve Bernier (shoulder) and F Darcy Hordichuk (groin), two players who most likely have played their last games as a Panther. Two good guys but just not productive enough unless GM Dale Tallon wants to keep Hordi around as a bodyguard next season. F Ryan Carter, who was leveled by Erskine last night, has a minor concussion and is done for the season. He will no doubt be re-signed. DeBoer said it was a clean hit and I agree.Spoke to David Booth about being nominated for the Bill Masterton Award, given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey. He is most proud of playing a full 82-game season (fingers crossed with two to go) after being out most of last year with two concussions. While he didn’t have a great year because of his -minus 29 defense, he did bounce back with 23 goals to lead the team and is confident he will do better next year after another summer of hard work.“Last year was one of the hardest years I went through. I learned a lot about life in general, about character, perseverance. Those are some of the things you learn when you go through something tough like that. It’s a priviledge to play this game for a living and when it’s taken away from you I guess you realize how good you have it,” Booth said. “When you start to play again what a great opportunity it is. You look at everything else going on in the world, it’s so fortunate the lives we have. I think we take it for granted too much.“My main goal this year was just to play a full season. A couple of games I didn’t know if I’d play but that was a goal of mine, I fought through a couple of times there. Keep learning. This is a huge summer for me to continue to get better and continue to go forward.Booth, who has never made the playoffs in his five-year career with the Panthers, will be watching.“It’s fun to watch. That’s the best time of year to be playing,. I’m a hockey fan so it’s always fun to watch. It would be quite an experience playing in them. We’ll get there,” he said.DeBoer has moved Booth on and off the top line all year but wasn’t in the mood to pick his game apart.“It’s a transition back to a normal year. He’s dealt with the ups and downs with that on the ice. The fact that he’s potentially going to play all 82 games is a huge step in he right direction,” DeBoer said. “I came into the season hoping he’d stay healthy and take a step back towards being the player he’s capable of being and he’s on his way to doing that.“There was a steady progress. His confidence started to come back. There were ebbs and flows but I think for the most part the fact he’s going to play 82 games is the biggest thing. We can pick apart at times this season his defensive play or shoulde he have gotten more goals. I don’t think that’s fair with what he’s dealt with.“The fact he stayed healthy the entire year is a great tribute to him and a huge step toward getting back to the player we all expected.” …DeBoer said that he will get goalie Tomas Vokoun one more start in the final two games. …
