Anyone seen or heard of this one. Looks interesting.

A DVD screener of it leaked today, but it hasn’t shown up on any newsgroups yet.

anticipating this one the most this year, looks fucking incredible! a very Legend meets Mirrormask feel to it based on the trailers.

Any date for it to open nationally?

Love the director.
i’ve been waiting to go see this in theaters, but there are no places that are actually showing it
I’m gonna take the Marc train into DC to see it this weekend probably.
it’s supposed to open here in Denver this weekend. Prolly check it out d
This opened here in Australia yesterday. I saw it and loved it. Everything about it is excellent and the girl who plays Ofelia does an amazing job. The ending had my girl crying but I was smiling. It sort of depends on how you look at the way it ends as to how you react.

At first I wasn’t too impressed with the screenwipe transitions (for lack of a better term) but over the whole movie it grew on me, although I noticed a couple of moments where I found myself thinking ‘they should’ve used a wipe there’.

All-in-all, 9/10. Go see it if you have the chance to see it in theatres with other people (a few moments where everyone was like "ohhhh!" and writhing in their seats), download it if they don’t have the decency to show it near you.
Twas a good one. I’d recommend it to pretty much anyone.
i went last night and have to say it was fantastic. it had enough other story lines so that it wasnt a drawn out two hour fantasy/fairy tale. very creative and the special effects were cool. the second task made my skin crawl.

highly recommended to anyone. but just to let you know, it has subtitles. and not recommended for children because of the story arc. and even though it was subtitled, there was very little dialogue with the storyline telling the actual story
Went last night and was blown away. I still haven’t fully thought through it…feel like I missed a lot of parallels and deeper meanings to the film. Might just need to go back and see it a second time.

You know, when I watched it I didn’t actually feel like I was reading subtitles. I wasn’t sure whether that was because I’m an awesome reader or what but your suggestion might have something to do with it.

As for the second task, yeah… *REEEOROOOOOOORRRRWWRRRRR* Freaky.
Yeah, the 2nd task had me squirming, as did the role of women and knives in a certain scene
The knives thing had everyone in the cinema go "EWWW OHHH".
anyone know of any good in depth interviews with the writer/director/producer (all the same guy) of this?
I just heard about this movie a few days ago and now I’m pretty interested… too bad the link won’t work for me

that link was dead a long time ago. i couldnt get it to work either. but go to the theater. it is well worth the money spent
spoilers below??

I’ve got to say I had high expectations and was extremely let down…it felt just like hellboy- I know you’ll say "did you see the same movie as me?" but it did…the way he tells a story, the way he films- was the DP the same? It really let me down.

I was just waiting and waiting to get into it and it never happened, it felt like it was 5 hours long while it was really very short. Some interesting visuals for sure, some great acting as well- the score and his framing isn’t to my taste and left me with a bitter taste in my mouth as I walked out.

Thoroughly enjoyed the gore, had the movie been PG-13 I would say avoid it at all costs, but I did enjoy enough of it to make it above most of the crap we get in the theaters.
i thought it was dazzling. not much in the way of surprises, but i don’t sit down to Snow White wondering what will happen.
I loved it. It made me cry at the end…it’s the lullaby.

Are you a girl? Just curious…I’m quite certain girls can attach themselves to the film a lot better than most guys.

i def agree, my boyfriend liked it but was bored with the film at times.
a large part of it is an emotional bond between the girl and other female characters…I can’t relate to that much, however if there is a film where (say big fish) a man and his father is the main emotional tie- I’ll start the waterworks

understandable.

<33 Big Fish <33
saw it today and loved it! i’m a big fan of fantasy/imagination films. and that girl is adorable.
I guess it just depends on what you like. I’m into films like this so I thought it was great and I wasn’t bored at any part in the movie.

I was humming the lullaby down the street after leaving the cinema and my girl gave me a pouty look pretty much telling me to stop it.
Great movie! I loved it! Just one question.

Is the little girl…. Dead? At the end, does she die?

Her body dies. But she’s in a better place in her mind… or something.
So she did suceed and goes to rule that fantasyland? Or… was it her way of accepting her death?

I was kind of thinking it was her imagination, but some of those things before really happened, so I guess she really did get back to her kingdom. I wonder why her mother was looked like the queen or whatever though.

I really enjoyed the movie, kept me involved the whole time, and I actually liked how it was done in spanish, it made the characters seem more real and vibrant.

the thing that makes me think it was a dream is that since her mother is the queen shes imagining it and making her mother the queen of her life. and with the spanish thing, i thought it was . i thought it made it more fantasyish, like "this could never happen to you" kind of thing
Yeah, The mother queen makes me think the faun and kingdom was all her imagination. Her minds way of coping with all the horrible things that are happening.

The only thing is… How did she escape the house at the end of the movie if everything was just her imagination? Remember, she was locked in and only escaped through using magic chalk.

good point. Just saw the movie tonite and I think it was pretty good. What was the "in-human" thing in the second trial? Also why the fuck did she eat the grape when she knew not to eat anything

at the end she runs away with the baby brother, while captain is chasing her…. no magic chalk needed.
yet, the part that makes me think it is all imagination… is when captain approached her in the labyrinth, he didnt see the faun. she was just saying "yes, i would" to nothing. then he shoots a bitch. damn.

the part that makes me wonder is, how the mother got well with the root under the bed, and immediately worse when it was removed…. that cant be in her head…..

and i thought the queen looked like mercedes, more so than the mother.
the queen was played by the same actress as the mother
haha i didnt read that far into it haha.

i just said looked like haha.
i think it was her way of dealing with the horrible crap in her life. A sort of escape for her.

Notice that she get’s shot and her mind makes up the ‘you passed the last test’ and she’s getting cheered on… then it goes away and back to reality, where she has her last breath and dies.
how do you explain how she got out of her bedroom in the last bit? she had to have used the magic chalk, right?
Didn’t really care for the movie, couldn’t tell whether the fantasy was real or not, and it there wasn’t even a moral of the story even though they were trying to make it seem like there was.

Agreed, she got in his room while it was locked. And she got that wierd ass root. Then she found the tree she was supposed to, and went under and got all dirty from the toad. I think the supernatural stuff really was happening.

Well thats the point, you never find out for sure, if it was really happening you would have seen the fawn when the captain saw her at the end. For all we know she was just in some muddy tree getting dirty, and the root was probably just coincidence.
I saw it yesterday and I also felt like I was messing a big picture to it all. I have to say that I saw more gore and violence than I expected to see.

maybe she was the only one that could see the fawn
I thought it was a great movie. It was done in a way that makes you unsure if it is all her imagination or not. If it is her imagination, then it’s a thoroughly depressing movie. I like to think it’s not.
couple reasons i think it was real, not all fantasy.

1. the book showed flowing blood just before her mother started bleeding all over for who knows what reason

2. the chalk, using that to get through rooms and walls she shouldn’t have

3. the root and it’s affect on the mother’s pregnancy, root burns and THEN she collapses.

hallucinations alter perceived reality, they don’t create it.
Don’t forget at the end, the wall of the labyrinth opened up to let her through but closed for the captain.

she was sent to bed without dinner after she came back from being in the woods all night and got herself and the brand new dress filthy.

so she was starving plus, she’s like 12 years old. the monster thing was sleeping. and maybe she’s never seen aladdin.

true.
I thought it was a great movie. I’m definately getting the DVD when it comes out.
I thought the acting was fantastic, and the gore was worth the rating. It could be difficult for some people to go with the story, you kind of have to lend yourself to the anything can happen mind frame, or be disapointed. I thought it dragged from time to time, but not so much that I sat twidling my thumbs. Just enough to make you anticipate the next step. Overall 7/10 from me.
I finally saw this last night and was blown away. Not at all what I was expecting because I had not read anything about it prior to seeing it. Seriously one of the best movies I have seen in a long time and a very refreshing break from the typical hollywood crap we get most of the time.

The story was great, the characters were great, I really just loved everything about it. And yes I did cry at the end.
