Indiana Jones - crystal skull
I saw it at midnight. Not my favorite one… not even close.
There were 2 scenes that shouldn’t have even been in the movie. One action scene that went on far too long. And the movie felt like you were being walked thru it. As in the puzzles ect.
The movie started out fantastic! I really enjoyed the begining, but then it seemd to just get “meh.”
The overall plot is interesting, but much of the general public will blow it off as a “come on now… seriously?”
I give it a 7.5/10. I’m slightly disappointed in it.
I saw it at midnight too and I have to agree but I am going to give it a 7.0
It seems that people either loved it or hated it, I guess it depends on how high your hopes were comparing it to Raiders. After 19 years, people are bound to be somewhat let down. I’ll see it no matter what, I like the alien side to the story. Most people who didn’t like it said the same things, that scifi shouldn’t be in an IJ movie. Yet all the others had some scifi aspect to them, the new one is no different. I mean come on, the ark had ghosts coming out melting Nazi’s and the Holy Grial had the ghost of a knight guarding it. Having aliens in the new movie isn’t a stretch for me.
I’ve just heard from numerous people that it sucked. It was thrown together too fast. The first 1/3 of the movie was great but then it all came undone.
I’m seeing it tonight better and then will come back and share what I actually thought.
seriously though. they could have made up something better. this was too much sci-fi. the others had to do with religion at least.
the consensus from other boards is all the same:
It starts great… fizzles out, becomes a yawn by the end.
I’ve watched the first 3 dozens of times. If they come on TV I’ll be sucked into watching them again. The crystal skull…. I’ve really got no wish to view again
Right on… Everyone has the same feelings about this movie. Shia Lebouf doing Tarzan swinging, Alien ending, extra long action scene, crappy cgi, dude a nuke he survived a nuclear explosion. I don’t remember him doing anything superhuman in the other films. He should have at least broken a hip lol. Movie could have been great minus the :WTF moments.
The alien thing didn’t even bother me that much, I’m willing to make that leap and go with it. What bothered me was the poor story, boring talky exposition scenes, boring action scenes where the stakes are unclear, big overuse of CGI, random stuff that had no reason for being in the movie (Atomic bomb, Monkey army), Harrison Ford obviously phoning it in, and the movie looking like crap (all that white diffusion). Other than these things, the movie was OK.
haven’t seen it, but right away I knew CGI was gonna ruin in a bit for me, they’re going overboard with that shit in movies now, I feel like I’m watching videogame cut scenes all the time, older movies actually look better to me.
That was seriously the worst piece of garbage I’ve seen in a long long time. I want my 2 hours and $9 back.
Thought it was awesome, by the end I was wanting more. The only part where it got slow for a little bit was after he got fired from school. Other than that awesome movie. PS raiders was my least fav indiana jones movie.
i liked it but didn’t love it, the alien part was the part that i didn’t like, i understand that have indy movie has a sci-fi aspect but for me the aliens was too over the top for me
you like TOD more then ROTLA?
I havn’t seen it yet, but I heard Harrison Ford does a really shitty acting job in this one
The aliens aspect was just the icing on the shitty ending cake
I’m so upset that they threw this movie together so poorly.
5/10
Damn, I heard it sucked too…trying to decide if it’s worth going to the movies for now :/
I give it a 7/10. aswell. Entertaining but a little over the top.
And you have to remember Lucas loves his CGI and he had a nice influence on the flick too.
know what pissed me off?
Not a SINGLE fucking BOOBIE TRAP!!!!
Well. I’m going to see it Sunday with my stepdad probably…but I’ll be going into it with no expectations other than Indy in his hat, and the theme music.
Picked up the trilogy about a week or two ago, still need to watch Temple of Doom and Last Crusade.

For the first time? Enjoy the Last Crusade And then don’t go see the new one
eh, i’ve seen bits and pieces of all 3, but had never gotten around to watching them completely.
It was only OK, not up to #1 & #3, but better than most of the crap Hollywood puts out.
Anyone else think the hot rod opening was a tribute to American Graffiti?
Not digging the damn aliens. Story was ok…but it seemed like they were just setting it up for Shia Ledouche to take over as the next Indy.
I did like that they brought that chick back from Raiders. But other than that, it was ok at best.
6.5
I thought it was ok but it felt more like a “made for tv” version of a sequel. I get that they seemed to try to make it “blend” with the rest of the series and not get too crazy so they didn’t piss off fans of the originals but it felt too watered down for me.
I enjoyed it overall but not even sure if it will be a dvd/blueray buy for me.
meh, it was ok. Could’ve been better. It was definitly predictable. I would’ve liked it if the story took us to more locales too.
Well, went and saw it with the family today.
It was watchable…not too boring, not making me want to walk out or anything. But it certainly didn’t have the feel of the originals…aliens? No. The alien thing didn’t work. This is Indiana Jones, not Stargate.
I think my stepdad summed it up best: Iron Man was better.
I do like the fact that they touched upon Mutt maybe being the next Indy, then having Indy deny him that. Nobody touches the original as Indiana Jones.
The FBI guys…I was like “It’s the janitor!”
Oh yeah, you think Indy would have mentioned that he once found the freaking Ark of the Covenant…or that Mutt’s mom could have said “tell Indy I was the girl who fought the Nazis with him”.
OK movie, but way way overhyped. More to bad writing than bad acting though…good to see that Ford can still kick ass at 60+ years old.
Oh yeah, the previews absolutely sucked.
I predict Hancock will be a huge flop.
just got back from watching it now and I liked it.
my 2 biggest gripes: atomic bomb survival and Tarzan-ing through the trees. I’m okay with the alien stuff more so because I have heard similar conspiracy theories so it was kinda cool to see it in a movie. The CG looked pretty sweet for the most part - I really had to look for it to notice it.
There were negative reviews so I guess those were true in connection to your assessment.
I enjoyed it. I liked the aliens angle. Is it any less believable than finding the cup of Jesus? Or glowing rocks of undetermined power. There were a few cornball moments and a few “come on, he’d be fucking dead” moments but I could overlook them. The Janitor/FBI guy was actually the only thing that really sucked me out of the movie a bit. Love the Janitor, but could not buy him as FBI guy. I liked the Tarzan bit too. Basically it comes down to this; nothing in any IJ movie is worse than the inflatable raft scene from TOD, so using that as a calibration point actually makes every other action scene from any IJ movie infinitely superior even if the best that can be said for that scene is “hey, it’s better than the raft bullshit”.
Holy shit Harrison Ford abused the one liners in the beginning.
It seemed like a caricature of an indiana jones movie to me. I didn’t buy the surviving the A-bomb test, and the aliens killed it for me. Plenty of bad writing also.
Not a bad movie, per se, but not worth the $20 it cost my wife and i to see it.
this movie was a huge let down for me…the aliens…swinging like tarzan….come on…this reeks of george lucas bullshit…i just dont get why they had to ruin it…..there was a lot of good stuff in it…but it was completly overshadowed by all the bad stuff they decided to add….i was really fine with the alien thing….untill they decided to show the space ship at the end….thats what really killed it for me…. : /
Hell, the Tarzan swinging thing wouldn’t have been so bad if it hadn’t been so blatantly obvious that it was CG.
Still on the fence over whether I will buy the DVD or not.
It’s funny though…it was a bad Indiana Jones movie, but still an OK movie.
For some odd reason, I don’t recall this part.
I heard him before actually seeing him. I was waiting to see Zac Braff as his partner.
I’m with 90% of you. first part was great, last part blew chunks
I didn’t mean there was a janitor/FBI guy character in the movie. One of the FBI guys plays The Janitor on SCRUBS.
still haven’t seen this movie yet, but i talked to some friends who saw it. it seems everyone thinks aliens ruined it. i don’t get why, have you seen the other indy movies?, i think to myself. are extraterrestial visting earth any more ridiculus than the stuff in the other indy movies? i don’t get it…
the aliens theme was pretty cool, there were a lot of mystical spooky bits of the movie which i loved. Kinda cheesy at times but it worked, thumbs up to this
i saw it right after seeing ironman and almost fell asleep -_-
worst. movie. evar.
.
the aliens thing really just doesn’t jive well with archeology/adventure in my mind.
Very 80’s…..action seemed stale, story cheesy and non important and i was honsetyl hoping indie died so hed just shut the fuck up with the tacky comments
The monkey swinging scene KILLED it for me. 7/10.
When Mutt picked up Indy’s hat at the end I did the face.
that scene redeemed itself though…when Indy took it from him like “No, you can’t even touch me”.
it’s not more ridiculus, it just doesn’t fit with the rest of the movies and their connection to the almighty. it is contradictory to have god and aliens in the same universe.
shitty Indy movie, yeah. Shitty movie in general, not really. I’ve seen much much worse.
so i interwebbed this movie the other day.
Was rather excited to see it. Moving right along and i’m starting to notice something progress that i’m thinking, “nah, c’mon…..”
As this thought is slowly coming to fruition i’m still thinking its a good movie. Actions good, i’m entertained…………then BAM FUCKING BAM!
Last 15or so minutes i’m utterly slapped in the face with what i was HOPING wouldn’t happen.
wtfbbqhaxorzfuct! All i could think was, “what in God’s name was everyone on the “team” behind this thinking? I mean, how could they have stretched it this far?”
*sigh* Well its whatever. Overall i enjoyed it, a slight disappointment in the end but eh.
ARE PEOPLE FORGETTING HOW RIDICULOUSLY FAKE THE FIRST THREE MOVIES WERE?! Omg. Don’t let your expectations get the best of you. Most of the complaints were it’s too fake. What the hell did you expect from an I.J. movie? What?!
I fucking hated how easy it was to escape from the badguys then be recaptured and work closely with them as a team then back to an escape.
