I don’t get it (Batman Begins)

I seem to be the only one who dislikes this movie. I’ve tried watching it many times. Nothing in it grabs my attention. Everyone I speak to who loves this film says so many bad things about it, but conclude that it was an amazing movie.

“His batman voice was stupid, but it was an amazing movie.”

“Katie Holmes sucked, but it was an amazing movie.”

“Scarecrow is a shitty villain, but it was an amazing movie.”

“The first half was a little slow, but it was an amazing movie.”

“Not killing someone but setting a building on fire, killing possibly more people was stupid, but it was still an amazing movie.”

“The scene where he acts like an asshole during the party sucked, but it was an amazing movie.”

“The whole water-toxin-vapor thing didn’t really make sense, but it was still an amazing movie.”

Everyone brings up these points, yet they stick to it that it was good. I swear, it feels like I’m in the twilight zone. I like Batman. I just didn’t think the movie was that good. And now there’s this ridiculous hype over The Dark Knight that even if isn’t good, everyone will be too ashamed to admit it because they decided before they even saw it that it would be the most amazing movie ever.
I never had a problem with Batman until the movie came out. I feel like I could enjoy the Dark Knight if I wasn’t so pressured to enjoy it. But I don’t even wanna see it now because of all the hype.
The ONLY thing I agree with there is yes sometimes his voice was over dramatic (ala daniel day lewis) but other than that is has amazing all over it.

Just wait until this Friday
I thought Bale has been the best film Batman, but I do agree other parts of the movie are a little weak. Still worth seeing.

And until Friday, Nicholson has been my favorite Joker.

You saw the dark knight last friday?

This is another thing that gets me though. Nicholson was the only Joker until now. You can’t choose a favorite if there’s only one selection.
Aside from a few nitpicks, I loved Batman Begins. It had a grittier feel to it, compared to the first few ones (which honestly, I thought were kinda silly) Batman Begins explains how he got all his kit/gear and it makes perfect sense.

one explanation/interpretation I have seen is that the voice was due to Bruce Wayne overacting/overcompensating when he was first trying to be Batman.

We could always just have a live action movie with Kevin Conroy dubbing for the voice…

I thought the voice while Batman was cool. I got to thinking. If I was in that bad ass suit, acting like a bad ass, kicking ass and being all dark and depressed, I might take on a voice like that, it would come out naturally due to the circumstances.

im getting to this point
Bale’s voice isn’t nearly as annoying as Snake’s in MGS4.
That’s Snake’s voice since MGS1.
A lot of critics are saying that The Dark Knight surpasses the hype.

TDK currently has a 92% on Rottentomatoes.com

Even if it only had a 70%, the fact that so many critics are tossing around the word “masterpiece” is enough to tell anyone that this will be the best comic book based movie.
Tomorrow night. Mignight…I can’t freaking wait

And I loved Batman Begins I think Christian Bale is an excellent Bruce Wayne/Batman. Still love Michael Keaton and the original, but from everything I’ve heard of The Dark Knight I’m going in excited that it’s supposed to be a much harsher, scarier and darker Batman.
There has been one other Joker and it’s from the 1966 Batman that hardly anyone has seen, and even if they have it’s too campy to even consider.

and it’s annoying? WTF is so hard to understand about that that?
Exactly my point. Nicholson/Ledger aren’t the only Jokers.
I’ve seen that show, and although it is hilarious to watch, it’s not Batman.
I thought some parts were kind of eh but all in all, it was a fucking amazing movie.
Yeah, and my point was that the other Joker shouldn’t even be considered because no one even knows it exists.
i think you just cemented the op’s point
Nolan had great respect for the franchise. A lot of people miss out on the fact that the first half was an ode to the pure gothic traditions.

In all, I’m sure people were just ecstatic that they now had a superhero movie that in essence didn’t suck.
You’re probably the only person who thinks so.

Anyways Saturday night at Imax.
I’m not going to lie but I LOVE Mark Hamill’s voice as the joker in the cartoons.
I’m with you, saw it and disliked it. I prefer the original one by Burton.
.
dude MGS ripped off voice of Snake Plisken from Escape from New York.

other than that i like Begins. I hated Batman Forever And Batman and Robin. Worse movies ever. Batman Begins gives me that dark feeling everytime i watch it. im telling man Batman Begins is way better than previous Batman movies.

The thing i dont like is the hype as others have mentioned. I think they are only hyping it up because of the weenie who played the joker. The guy dies and thats his last movie. i didnt see this much publicity when Batman Begins came out. I didnt even catch it until it came out on DVD.
I thought Batman Begins was a great movie. Interesting plot with some interesting characters to flesh it out. Nothing was wrong with the Scarecrow as a villain. Katie Holmes was always a “meh” actress, so I kind of ignored her. But on the other hand Christian Bale pulled off Batman extremely well.

His dark and different voice(than when Bruce Wayne) adds a bit of darkness to the Dark Knight. Definitely a good thing.

This movie was a good take on the origins of Batman. Afterall, everyone has a bit of a different story when it comes to the origins of a Superhero. I think this one was well done!

This isnt Heath Ledger’s last movie. He has 1-2 more movies coming out depending on whether or not they refilm one because it wasnt done.

Also, the studio actually changed the marketing not too be so focused on the Joker out of respect. The media is who is hyping it up.

There wasnt as much hype for Begins because no one knew it would be as good as it was.
I watched the first half of Batman Begins last night which is the first I have watched since the theater.

I am very impressed with the movie. I dont think his voice is a big deal, if you are judging a movie on a voice you are watching for the wrong reasons.

He has to mask his voice a little and also sound mean so he can strike fear in the bad guys.

Wouldn’t make sense for Batman to sound like a normal guy.
Good movie.
yeah so i just downloaded batman begins last night and it was better than i remember. i dont see what the hate is about. and judging by the trailers, that ‘weenie’ seems very very promising.
I give begins a 9… if you sit back and watch from a cinematic experience, it’s a beautifully done movie. Nolan is a fantastic director and thats what drew me in from the get go.
I thought the Scarecrow was a badass motherfucker. I really hope we haven’t seen the last of him. Those scenes where we get to see what the people taking the toxin see was trippy, esp. when Batty sprays him and he sees that scary ass Batman.
That part was fucking sweet! I can only imagine villans having nightmares about batman and that was he looks like in there dreams. Shit i kno i wont rob a bank after seeing that gully ass motherfucker.
no you little dingleberry, there’s also the old tv series’ Cesar Romero version of the joker, and the cartoon joker voiced by mark hamill
holy fucking fail, batman!
First part of one of the good episodes of the Justice League animated series…Batman/Joker stuff at the beginning to give an idea of how Conroy and Hamil play them.

IbIgetflamedforwatchingcartoons
ooooh mista J!
I watched Batman Begins last night and I still think it is fantastic. One of the things I like about it most is that it is very intelligent for a superhero movie. Most of them are mindless action flicks but this movie is much more than that.
the director of the game based the character off of kurt russel’s performance as snake plisken in escape from new york, in the second metal gear game snake introduced himself as “Pliskin”

“Snake Plissken was the main inspiration for the character Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid video game series. In Metal Gear Solid 2, Solid Snake goes undercover under the name of Iroquois Pliskin as a tribute to the protagonist of Escape from New York. It can be said that the eye patch that Big Boss wears mirrors that of Plissken.”
i disliked the first one…i liked the 2nd one alot more
That’s a tv show and a voice actor doesn’t count. I’m talking about jokers presented in movies.
He was in a movie as well…. Dude you’re failing hard stop posting.
caesar romero is awesome. and youre an idiot. go see the movie and make your own opinion off of experience and not ignorance.

hating on something because its successful is as retarded as loving something because everyone else does.
amazing movies still have flaws. nothing is going to be perfect for everyone.

lol for the first 20 seconds its like someone took the video and added their own adult sound track.

“right there….no it’s not…I think I would know”
Yeah..subplot that had been going on for a few episodes that season…romance between those 2 characters.

The show wasn’t “adult” in that sense, but it definitely had more to it than just a kid’s show.

Kinda like the Incredibles…seems like a kids thing, but there’s a lot there that adults can appreciate.
I loved the first movie. As a comic/action movie it was pretty good. I’m willing to forgive a lot of flaws in movies because it is impossible to make a flawless movie. The beginning was kinda slow but it had to be. I prefer that than for Bruce Wayne to be able to learn to fight in 3 days. To be flawless would be having him learn actual techniques and film it over the entire period. It would have to last the entire movie and would be more of a documentary. So here you have to choose the lesser of two evils.

As for The Dark Knight yes there were flaws, but they were all minor and understandable. The movie was pretty long so what do you expect to trim or extend? You can’t do anything more with the Harvey/Twoface scene. Hell it might’ve been the explosion that fucked up his brain and gave him a new personality. We don’t know and it doesn’t matter since in the end he gets presumably killed off anyway. That’s real life. People change for absolutely NO reason. And that is a flaw? It stays consistent with the joker’s motive. Why is he doing all of this? Well there is no reason. He’s an anarchist. Why does there have to be a reason? What if he just woke up one day and decided hey, I’m going to do all this shit to entertain myself.

I loved the movies for their entertainment value. The Dark Knight entertained me throughout, so looking at the big picture, the little flaws don’t really seem to matter much because it was flawed for a reason. Read a comic book and tell me you can’t find any flaws or holes in the story. It’s fast paced and you’re expected to fill in many of the blanks. I think it’s key that everything was a little bit short which left you wanting more…
and what’s so funny about it is david hayter sounds like a badass, but he’s uber-geeky looking.

and i wasn’t impressed with batman begins, but thought tdk rocked.
