HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?
Which side are people buying? And is anyone buying the dual player?
IMO they are about equal when it comes to hd content so I’ve never understood faggots sackriding either side . Seems that blu ray will probably win now though
i forget which studio just did it… warner bros or paramount… but they just threw their hat in with blu ray and all their movies will be blu ray only.
i’m pretty sure is was warner. paramount was already on board with blu ray.
with warner now exclusively doing bluray and not HDDVD, that means them, paramount, fox and disney are only putting out on blu ray.
this could mean the HDDVD is going the way of Beta.
I find it funny that HD-dvd started losing, and the plans of Blu-ray in the future are to implement some of the same extra features that hd-dvd initially had.
so wait, a superior format fails to a lesser one, then the lesser one slowly grows into the previously beat format.
guess it’s all politics with studios.

beta > vhs
vhs still won
honestly though i think bluray is a better technology, personally though I thought hd-dvd was going to win, now im leaning more towards bluray.

You’ve got that a little backwards
Paramount (Transformers) is HDDVD Exclusive. Sony, Disney, Warner Bros., and a few others are exclusive BR, as far as I know Fox is still producing for both

Washington, D.C. (January 17, 2008) — If this were a boxing match, HD DVD was just knocked down. Again. Blu-ray discs have consistently outsold HD DVD by a 2-1 margin for the last year, but last week’s numbers reflect the greatest disparity yet in the format war. Even worse for HD DVD, Home Media Magazine writes that the top 10 high-def disc sellers were all Blu-ray. The best-selling HD DVD, The Kingdom, sold just 10 percent as many discs as the best-selling Blu-ray title, 3:10 to Yuma. The numbers are the first indicator of the damage done to HD DVD by Warner Bros’ endorsement of Blu-ray on January 4. The Warner decision gave Blu-ray a 5-2 ‘major studio’ advantage over HD DVD and prompted widespread speculation that HD DVD can’t survive the format war. Despite HD DVD woes, Paramount and Universal, which still back the format exclusively, are expected to soon announce several new releases. |
Regarding studios, here’s the breakdown:
HD DVD: Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks
Blu-ray: Sony (Columbia, MGM and Tri-star), Fox, Lionsgate, Disney and New Line.
Warner Brothers is releasing on both until it becomes BD exclusive June 1st.
Regarding hardware, with HD DVD you only have one choice: Toshiba (although LG and Samsung do make high-priced dual format players). With Blu-ray you can choose from Sony, Samsung, Pioneer, Panasonic or Sharp.
