Cloverfield Movie
Has anyone heard anything else on this movie? So far the only trailer we’ve been given was the one on Transformers…
I check every once in a while, but it doesn’t seem like they’ve released much more information. I’m really excited about it, and it’s only like 3 months away…
heard a few things on it.. one site said it was to hype up a new season for lost, supposedly a giant lizard is on the island with them and when they get rescued the lizard follows them back to the states, or another one is that its a movie filmed by teens about something destroying new york and capertured on a home camera.. there are a few ideas about the movie but nothing for sure
I hear there is going to be another trailer soon. Sorry no substantial news as of yet.
lots of people seem to think its going to be a remake of Godzilla, but I’m hoping its something better and more creative.
it’s a long shot, but I’m hoping for a king of monsters adaptation or rampage.
Its not a remake of godzilla hor Host (which was horrible to begin with) Whatever the monster is it will be 100% new.
The new trailer is expected to be shown before Beowulf.
I’ve also heard that it may be a huge let down because the creators did not expect the hype it got so its been going to a shit ton of rewrites.

i thought the release date of 1-18-08 was just gonna be the release of a new trailer. I dont think the movie is ready for january
IMDB still says release date a Jan 18th 08
come on inhumanoids
or a godzilla done right
The trailer that came out a few months ago was pretty good but you can make any movie look great in 30 seconds. I am not expecting anything out of the ordinary, probably the same old trash.

thanks for checking out my site
i’ve seen a couple new tv spots for it over the last few days. nothing else on imdb or wiki though
It looks like there isn’t a single original idea anywhere in this movie.
So yeah, this definitely is the new Godzilla movie BTW
I still haven’t seen even a halfway good pic of the monster.
Kicked the statue of liberty’s ass in the trailer they showed with "I am Legend"
Well, the idea of running around with a regular video recorder sounds semi-original. Unless, there’s another movie out that does that with the exception of amateur porn.
I’ll pass.
As I said before, the best thing about this movie will be the teaser.
Although I would dig the idea of a "Rampage" movie.
i got banned from 1-18-08news.com forums for making a thread insisting the movie MIGHT suck
I like the look of the trailer – just not enough to actually go to this… maybe when it hits cable *shrug*
latest review and a minor spoiler here:
here’s 2 pics from Kid Reviewer Nicholas Chance ():
i saw it, there was an advance screening in West Palm Beach. i was unimpressed.
it’s NOT godzilla. Toho hasn’t released the rights to Godzilla.. and won’t produce a new godzilla movie for like 10 years..
I know that now. This is the monster supposedly:
Lame. I no longer want to see it.

I like that a lot more than the stupid whale thing
it def takes some stylistic design from Shinsei series monsters.
i will see it for the curiosity about plot.. how are they going to introduce this thing.. where is it from an shit like that..
this could be america’s new-type monster series
The reviews are getting better by the moment and as I suspected, the movie focuses mainly on character, romance and comedy performances of the individuals in light of the destruction and chaos brought upon by the monster.
Furthermore, they also state that you actually do see the full figure of the monster so there won’t be no Blair Witch type debacle.
basically it looks like what would happen in a post 9-11 world if an american city, or more to the point, new york, comes under attack from terror unknown. and rather than ram down your throat another terrorist movie, why not have the panic and resulting military actions be real, but set against an unbelievable threat so that it doesn’t seem watered down, contrived, or preachy to today’s hip, pseudo-political, but utterly clueless, ritalin-fed youth?
to me, it looks like what happens when you put the "the Seige", "Godzilla (1999)", and "Blair Witch Project" (for cinematography) into a blender and the shoot a shotgun at it while it’s blending.
edit:
oh and here’s the monster with out paying $10
I’ve already heard how horrible people thought it was (not that I’m surprised). And also that the camera work makes you seriously sick, moreso than The Blair Witch did.
here is a phone pic of the actual monster…. pretty meh
but SPOILER WARNING

I liked it. Whoever is bitching about the shaky camera is a pussy, as there were at most two scenes where it got a bit much (the bridge scene comes to mind). It was a unique style of filmmaking that you don’t see often, and it could have easily gone bad, but it didn’t. The acting was good, the effects were impressive, and on the whole you really felt immersed in the story.
I’d say one of the most underrated parts of the movie will likely be the sound effects, but they really made the movie in my opinion.
SPOILERS:
Also, the whole shit with those mini-monsters infecting people and making them blow apart and the scenes where they attack people are the real tense moments.

yea i could not agree more, i saw it at midnight and was blown away, jj abram said that this movie was supposed to give america its own moster i.e godzilla for japan, so knowning that i exspected an old fashion monster movie and it was easily the most realistic monster movie ive seen, people die when the monster attacks and the sound and visuals when the army is fighting it is enough to make anyone mouth fall open a little. and if you dont like the way it was done with a video cam then get off your ass and make a better movie
i liked it, i just wish i had more closure, what happens after, who finds the camera, where did the monster come from?
i really liked the angle of this movie, its a first hand account of the attack, no third person or overhead shit
and if you dont like the way it was done with a video cam then get off your ass and make a better movie[/quote]
what the fuck kind of logic is this
How many were there of the big one? I only saw one, but some said there were a few. Also did everyone catch at the end where they whisper?
I just got back from it. The camera made me sick, but I struggled through it because I’ve wanted to see this for so long. I really liked it. The audio was easily the stand-out part of the entire movie.
I just got back
We sat in the front row, all of my friends, incl. me, felt sick at the end. One of my buddies stopped watching halfway through because he was going to be sick.
I thought the camera view ruined the movie…
|
edit:
oh and here’s the monster with out paying $10 |
Looks like a cheap imitation of Godzilla.
the lack of closure is JJ abrahms style.. look at lost.
it was done very well, the audio was good.. the handi cam had one fucking amazing battery life..
The monster design they originally had was sleeker, more appealing(imho) but the final product was rather terrorfying..
OH! did anyone notice the word Darma at the very beginning?
whisper? What?
*edit* "It’s still alive," got it. Didn’t wait even though I knew he’d do something liek that after the credits. Playing it in reverse is retarded though.
Alright, I was a big skeptic going into the movie, but my final verdict:
*spoiler*
Also: Watch closely when Rob and Beth are on the ferris wheel at the end..something falls in the water
Alright, I liked it a lot actually. The camera didn’t bother me, it felt VERY realistic, it felt like you were taping it. To me, it was good. But a lot of general movie goers are gonna be like WTF, at the ending, the abruptness, the part where not much get explained…but a lot of the majority are sheep and don’t have any imagination and need shit explained.
The final monster was awesome. Extremely original looking. It is SIMILAR to the monsters in the art pictures a few posts up, especially with the red breathing bags, and the weird forward arms and long whip-like tail. I really liked this movie though. It’s a different approach to things. And all the parts with the little parasite/mite looking spider creature things were superbly done and terrifying. And what they did to people! Holy crap! Awesome.
SPOILERS BE YONDER
They didn’t nuke, or tactical nuke NYC. If they did, the SD Card in the camera would be destroyed from the EMP. The United States would never do that. Had to be a JDAM or two in there, or some really heavy kilo’s dropped on the monster. Do I think it’s dead? Yes. The pictures on have led me to believe it is. I think it lives past the end for a while before getting owned by the Navy. If you look, theres a LOT of blood in the water, some mangled parts, and if you sort the photos around, theres our Navy and some A-10’s attacking the water. Also, there’s speculation that in the end in the credits Rob whispers something like "It’s still alive…" Typical JJ Abrams mystery. People said they listened to it forward and backward, and that both ways it sounds like "It’s still alive." I listened to it backward, and it sounded exactly, in ENGLISH like "It’s still alive." Do I want a sequel? No. Sequels are rubbish. Also on if you stay there long enough you hear the roar a few minutes into just chilling on the site.
Here’s the sound clip from the very end of the credits.
forwards
backwards

whisper? What?
*edit* "It’s still alive," got it. Didn’t wait even though I knew he’d do something liek that after the credits. Playing it in reverse is retarded though. *spoiler* |
This is also true. Extremely hard to see, so I’m not 100% sure that something "fell." It’s on the horizon, off to the right, very far back. It really does look like something splashes.
By the way. The movie is not a "monster" movie like everyone seems to believe. That’s just a backdrop. I also don’t think that it has any parallels to Iraq, or the wars in the middle east. Yes, I see similarities, but I don’t think that’s what Abrams was going for. Cloverfiedl is essentially one man’s quest to save the woman he loves, and it just so happens that there’s a giant monster attacking the city behind him.
By the way, Slusho, and Tagruato, are two names often tossed around. Slusho is a popular Japanese drink in the Cloverfield world, and Tagruato is a drilling company from what I’ve heard. Apparently Slusho’s main ingredient is called Seabed’s Nectar, and they had to partner with Tagruato to drill for it in the deepest parts of the ocean…but Tagruato was searching for a peice of their satellite (Hence the splash you saw when Rob and Beth were at Coney Island). So the creature came from the sea, just like Abrams said.
Fuck, now I’m going to have to go see it again!!!!
GOOD movie, good sound effects, not sure of where the picture of something laying in the ocean with a huge hole out of it came from. I also don’t understand why sites online are asking "if anyone from rob’s party can e-mail me…."
Very cool shot of the driverless horse carriage.
Spoiler.
I don’t think the monster died at the end because it is no longer called Central Park.

That and the "whisper" at the end. Plus how shows some photos of a naval battle.
my friend says the thing that falls into the water at the end looks lke an egg
.
The thing that falls into the water looked like an egg/pod falling from space/upper atmosphere.
I absolutely loved the movie. The camera work/plot framing device really added to the realism. I mean the shaky camera movement really conveyed the chaos and intensity. It felt like a new a new approach to an already tried and true style. The one thing I did notice, was that like Lost, the character development in Cloverfield was superb. You really cared when the characters lose someone, or when one dies. The buildup all the way into mid second act was great. You almost get distracted watching the whole Rob/Party/Beth thing go down, that you are just about as surprised as everyone else is when the first explosion goes off.
before the movie started the guy that works at the theater got out in front and told anyone that gets motion sickness or has a weak stomach to move to the back because they apparently had like 11 people throw up in the front rows on thursday night. I was in the third row, it was awesome. I’m not the kind of person to sit upfront but the theater was full so i had no choice, but it was a good thing for this movie. pretty bad ass. cause since its shot in the first person you really do feel like you are there.
most likelike the bombs dropped where mk84 2000lb bombs. I only say this because the number of bombs dropped exceeds teh max carrying capacity of JDAMs
|
I just got back

i was so fucking mad the entire movie was like that, made me fucking sick and i had to leave halfway thru the movie and go outside for a minute or two. waste of $20 and what could have been a good movie
The first-person camera technique was interesting and it really did add to the realism although I think if they had slightly less shaking during calm parts of the movie it would have made it better. It just got a bit hard to handle after a while.
Personally I would have preferred if the movie was say 30 minutes longer and they added in more suspenseful sections to really build up the nerves before they came in with the rather sudden ending.
I’m sure if I watched it a few more times, I’d probably appreciate it a bit more, but having just seen it at the cinemas, I can’t say that I was really impressed. Not a bad movie nevertheless.

I bet the DVD will have al the extras & backstory people need on Cloverfield.
DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!
I watched it last night and I want not only my money back but also the 84 minutes of my life i lost and my dinner which I lost due to motion sickness. Only fans of the first Blair witch project can watch this film.
You wanna know what the end of the movie is? It’s a clip of the guy who made it counting the money saying "I can’t believe people paid money for this film! I’m Rich Bitch!" This movie is all hype and no delivery. I was more entertained by watching people load bread on trucks! Watching your shit go down the toilet after you flush is more entertaining! Please save yourselves by not seeing this film. If you are seriously interested in this hype machine download it.
Worst movie evar. Total hype job. I actually enjoyed the hype more than the pitiful crap job of a movie.
Some people were saying that those photos were from before, and that the military knew about the monster, which is why they were able to mobilize and secure Manhattan so quickly.
I thought it was a great movie! I think that they should make a sequel. But the sequel should be of a different person point of view of the same attack.
I really enjoyed the movie. The camera thing only bothered me at the very beginning of the movie while nothing was going on and they were still chilling in the apartment (I mean seriously, only a retard with Parkinson’s would shake a camera that much). However, once the action started I liked the way it was filmed.
And, after reading up on some of the stuff that I missed (ferris wheel part, etc.) I might go and watch it again.

I really hope so. If you go see the movie knowing the story behind it, it makes the movie much better. However, if you’re like me, who goes out with a few friends and chooses to see the movie 5 minutes before it starts knowing fuck all about it, it’s a bit hard to tolerate the whole thing.
Now that you mention it though, it will be interesting to see some of the extras on the DVD when it is released.

oh thank god. i thought i was the only one who had that opinion.
anybody else feel the only suspense was inside the tunnel walking down..even then you felt like a train was going to come.
ill watch it on the big screen, but i never really got teh feel of it watching through my cpu screen. i watched the ending scene a few times and saw the splash as well
the only thing that bugged me was that they were constantly getting suprised by the monster appearing out of nowhere, its not like you can miss something that big moving around
but other than that
loved the movie, fucking brilliant
41 million and #1 at the box offices, not too shabby wiht only a 30 million budget
whaaa! I got dizzy and my tummy made pukies!
whaaa! It didn’t have a typical Hollywood tie up all the strings ending!
whaaa! It looks like they used a video camera to shoot the whole movie!
LOL! I loved it. People are funny.
Thats exactly what I thought at the very end of the movie… I was like WTF how did that thing sneak up on them so fast…
Movie shot entirely in shakycam = me not watching it.
i had to close my eyes durign some parts because too much shaking

why did you find it dissapointing?
Because I went in to see something that I thought was going to be great, suspenseful and scary and came out feeling very empty and the suspense/scaryiness was not their. It was quite lame.

an ‘06 with 6 posts! Please
Uhh… I had to walk out in the middle of the movie which really sucked balls. I really wanted to see it but I couldn’t handle how the camera was moving. It made my head hurt, made me dizzy, but thank god I didn’t puke on the people sitting in front of me.
Got home and did that part
wow i didnt know post count and join date mattered here lol
nonetheless the movie was awesome
very original movie. I loved it.
the shakiness was no problem at all.
i didn’t see this as a MONSTER movie. it was a movie about what can happen in the middle of a disaster. It was a movie about PEOPLE.
kinda like War of the Worlds or The Mist where it showed how people acted during panic and crisis.
|
wow i didnt know post count and join date mattered here lol

Of course YOU would say that!
the movie was great, I don’t know what some of you are bitching about, the camera wasn’t too bad, it wasn’t shaky at all, it just moves around a bunch. The only time it got "shaky" is when shit blew up or they leaped for their lives.
Had a good plot, and a great ending. I had to google what the fuck happened however, (which cleared up a whole lot) but it was still great nontheless.
Join dates and post count mean shit all, I just post more on different forum(s).
Ok my take on the movie. Nice sound effects, cool concept with the camcorder. However, I thought the fact that they were showing it from the perspective of some college kids was a pretty standard idea and kinda killed it. I mean, the fact is I know the guy was trying to follow his heart or whatever but only he’s still sacrificing 3 other people’s lives while finding his love. If he would’ve used common sense and thought "There’s no way I can make it across and back alive" then they all could’ve evacuated when they had the chance and made it out alive.
Just saw this today and I thought it was good and mighty fucking suspenseful. I was enraptured the whole time, and besides average acting, and Rob being a complete idiot to advance the plot, movie was damn entertaining. I had a feeling that this director was not gonna go for the typical and he doesn’t. Liked the concept, liked the monster, and liked how the movie transgressed to the end.
As for shakiness, wtf I barely noticed it, if you want to see shaky, watch the bourne ultimatum.
Oh, and I was pretty impressed by how quickly the army mobilized. Shit, tanks within a hr of the disaster.
Exactly how I feel. I really enjoyed it. It did everything right and none of the things that I feel are wrong about modern disaster/horror/thriller movies. I noticed pretty much all of the 40+ year olds in attendance hated it, of course these are the mouthbreathers that enjoy formulaic family sitcoms.
I did feel a bit queasy when I got home but mostly that was me not having eaten today and the car-ride home, and that I was forced to sit so close, since the cattle gobbled up all the good seats.
Anyways, it was refreshing, the sound effects and everything just had me The acting was very convincing. I just loved it really.
Definately a movie to see in the theater in booming surround sound. Oh yeah the visuals were pretty slick too.
And I loved that the movie was SO open to interpretation. I’ve actually had fun reading theories on this site that you just dont get from most movies.
This movie is good for the same reason that the Director’s/Final cut of Bladerunner will always be >>>> the original film release, it doesn’t coddle you and expects that you have some intelligence to think for yourself about what is happening. Unfortunately, there are so many plebs in this country who have become unable to figure things out for themselves, but hey, I guess they are the target market for Dragon Wars?
|
Abrams having some fun??
|
UMBRELLA Corp?
you dont watch Lost, do you?
Oh you’re right. Nice.
I used to watch it, I haven’t watched it lately though.
i thought it was pretty boring. I didn’t feel any suspense, except in the tunnels. I didn’t have any compassion for any of the characters, so I could care less about Rob seeking out his love. Whole time I was like "they need to hurry up and save that bitch so the plot can continue". Basically it was just good special effects.
Vapid acting, very little suspense, original concept, good special effects 5/10.

I could have cared less about Rob and his new found love. It would have been different if it had been his wife or his daughter but some dumb bitch who he banged then realized he loved??? Please.
I thought their was no suspense. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t excited about the Monster once they showed it.
Special effects were good. Somewhat original. I don’t see the difference between this and Godzilla but whatever.
I thought it was Ok if it didn’t have any hype. burning out on school and work lately, the only preview i saw was the teaser before transformers. it seemed really rushed, and like he might just use it as a lead in to something else. that i i agree it is unpossible for the monster to sneak up son someone. i mean the earth shook when it walked.

white people
I fully believe this film cannot be experienced in anything other than a cinema.
I just saw it and the sound was intense, made me feel like i was right there. Amazingly done.
But it takes a open mind to really enjoy it. Technically it’s a fantastic film, but not the most enjoyable film I’ve ever seen, just very well executed.
It’s a shame people went in expecting to see a War of the Worlds and left feeling disappointed. Wrapping it in a classified video made it pretty cool, but immediately extinguished the chance to add in extra pieces to show what was going on a round.
8/10
p.s. Anyone else notice the monster in Cloverfield often made the exact same noise as the "Monster" in lost?
GTFO

Rob! Hey, Rob… dude, you all right? Rob? Rob… dude, we needa get outta here…
Rob… Rob… you all right man? You all right?
i didnt think it was all that bad of a movie…by all means it could have been worse…but it was better to just sit there and make fun of the movie
me and a friend were sitting there saying they should have been asking the monster and army guys if they would want to say something to rob before he goes to japan
