apocalypto, mel gibson's latest
seen the trailer? I saw it on youtube but a friend said it was shown before borat. anyway, i thought the trailer was pretty badass — great visuals/cinematography and the sets/locations look really cool as well. thoughts on this one?
saw some panoramic stills from the movie this morning. it’s looks freaking amazing.
Looks really good.
All subtitled though.
yeah it’s gonna be awesome. i just watched the new tv spot courtesy of the intertron hype machine. more good stuff:
I’m very curious to see it. I didn’t like the Passion much just because I had that hammered into my head too much growing up this looks better.
i haven’t seen the Passion. I want to tho, juist for the cinematography and such.
After seeing the trailers for Apocalypto, i wanna see it.
Maya culture has always been intriguing
Am I the only person that thinks Mel Gibson has a "holier than thou" thing going on? No that wasn’t meant as a pun, and no I don’t hate Mel Gibson. If anything I think he is a very talented actor and director. It just seems that he’s going way out into left field, and I’m not sure if he’s doing it cause it stuff that he wants to do, or if he’s doing it cause its off the deep end and off the deep end creates buzz, so to speak.
"holier than thou" … kinda, imo. I think he’s a little out there, but I also like it. He’s bringing us movies we may never have seen; interesting, moving, different, and disturbing (to some). I don’t even care about what he feels or thinks in his personal life, I just let the performances speak for themselves.
And as for creating buzz, I think he does these movies because he truly wants to. But at the same time, just choosing to do these movies will create some talk regardless, and he’d never be able to keep making big budget movies without selling tickets/movies.
couldn’t agree more. personal issues aside, gibson brings the heat when it comes to film making and after seeing the tv spot (in particular) i am very excited for this to come out.
um, i went and saw an advance screening last night here at the Loews in Georgetown. It’s like a mix between predator, last of the mohicans, and braveheart. And you will not be able to leave your seat.
Some of the most beautiful cinematography and creative camera shots I’ve seen.

I can’t wait
same <3
honestly, the shots are just super cool and creative, not to mention the sets used are just perfect for the vibe/tone/temperature of the scenes. Elaborating without spoilers is difficult, but just know you are in for a treat.
at the end of the screening, a few people cheered, and I definitely heard an "awesome job Mel."
anyway, go see that isht. Prolly better in the theaters, too.
i saw a sneak peak last night at school. its pretty bloody and intense but, its alright overall.
looks like a great movie

spam!!!!
Just got back. Overall, pretty good. Like everyone has been saying, the cinematography is gorgeous and I’m sure it’ll win an oscar for it.
Also, you immediately care for the main character right from the get go, so it is easier to get into the story and his plight.
Pretty fucking violent and bloody throughout too.
Saw it last night. Great movie! Gets extra points for cinematography and landscape views. Mel gibson told the story very well and managed to open the movie up half way through so you don’t get bored of the same scenery. You remember how at the very end of Braveheart when Mel Gibson yells "Freedom!" it kinda gives you goose bumps…You’ll get that in this movie too. My girlfriend and I stayed up talking about the movie for an hour after it was over.
I’m hoping the wife and I can get a babysitter for our little guy this weekend. I so want to see this movie.
movie is complete shit
just a bunch of running thru the jungle and cutting throats etc, if you want to watch a guy get chased thru the jungle and lots of blood with little else to offer then this is your movie, comparing this movie to braveheart is just a stretch, similar amounts of blood but braveheart had something this shit movie didn’t, a plot that you could actually give a damn about.
but that’s just my opinion, there are obviously some folks who like this movie .
I thought it was pretty decent but agree with the whole running through the jungle the entire movie… subtitled the entire time kinda sucked too. there was a total of 6 people in the entire theatre
why such the hate of subtitles?
Do you prefer dubbed movies?

No, I just wasn’t expecting it. I knew very little to nothing about the movie going into it. I’d rather a movie in English whenever possible though.
mel gibson likes:
1. racist speech
2. sexist speech
3. subtitles
mel gibson needs IMO:
1. quit with the racist speech
2. quit with the sexist speech
3. have actors speak english
4. do another mad max movie

I thought it was a great movie. Didnt think it was as violent and bloody as most people think though
I thought it was awesome…
I didnt go in with high expectations….and it completely caught me off guard. Even if I did have high hopes, they would have been met.
I enjoyed it. The last scene really caught me off guard. The thing that bothered me was some of the visual effects stuff with the animals was very corney. You could immediately tell with the jaguar and boar that they were fake. It really bothered me as the rest of the movie was well done. Overall I’d reccomend it but I wouldn’t go see it again.
i loved the movie .. my only gripe with it .. was when they were killing the jaguar .. omg was that fake looking .. u would think he could made it a little better
Great Movie..this will be one thet I own for sure.. hell.. I’ll even BUY it.. thats saying alot!!
I loved the movie and want to see it again… The Jaguar was quite funny actually.
i liked it. was very beautiful and the shot that panned down and around the waterfall made my stomach quesey
what i didn’t like was the tribal guys speaking in british accents…run forrest run, and the cat was pretty silly.
that little baby kitty was fucking adorable tho
This was the worst movie I’ve ever seen. I actually had to apologize to the people I invited…
Granted, it has some great shots. But the pervasive, superfluous violence got to me quickly. Mel Gibson is fucking nuts in my opinion.

subtitles dont bother me.
the movie was awesome.
I rented it a few days ago watched last night
WTF, they made dick and ball jokes in the 1500s or whatever?
They had words for fuck?
There was a modern edge given to it but I hardly think that is appropriate with supposedly more accurate subtitled movies
Strange movie to say the least. The first half was intriguing, but the second half was just odd.
