can someone please explain what actually happened? I get the plot line, but neither ryan or myself can figure out if that stuff actually happened.
The book is pretty ambiguous too. Personally I think Mr. Bateman imagined a lot of violnce that didn’t actually happen.
Anyone else get more upset with Patrick for kicking the dog than killing the whores? I must be desensitized to human on human violence.
Yeah, i agree with you with how we are desensitized. The entire movie was actually kind of humorous if you ask me. I thought it was pretty straight forward, but then the last few minutes lost me. I imagine he had to have imagined it because everything was normal.
Id say he just went crazy… imagined most of it.
The funniest scene in the movie was either him running naked down the hall with the chainsaw or him holding a gun to the cats head while trying to insert it into the ATM.
fucking awesome film i should watch it tonight…one of my roomates in college would watch it 10 times a week the whole time he lived with me, I was a little concerned to say the least.
It’s hard to say, man. I remember the last scene of the book is him looking at a sign which reads, "this is not an exit."
so…is it escapism for him, or all-out release?

I think Glamorama was. Glitterati was Victor’s travels in Europe. He was the guy in Rules of Attraction played by Kip Purdue. Glitterati was supposed to show in more detail what they showed in Rules and it was supposed to give insight into some stuff that happens in Glamorama or something to that effect.
To clarify my post. Im pretty sure that Glamorama was a book but I dont think Glitterati was. It was just going to be a movie that goes into detial on the european trip.
The European trip in Rules of Attraction was one of the best acts ever.

Yeah the way I saw it, he imagined the killings as well… loved the business card bit!!
Why did people keep mistaking him for other people? Paul Allen mistakes him for the other guy. Howard, his lawyer at the end calls him Davis, the doorman at the apartment building towards the end calls him Mr. Smith before Bateman shoots him.

I think that was a joke about how all those wall street metrosexuals look alike.
Yeah, a running prank on how despite everyone’s attempt to better themselves and be superior they all end up pretty much just alike.
Notice also how in the card show-off scene how all the cards say VICE PRESIDENT.
American Psycho is a movie where you take from it what you want to. The director gives you several differant ways you can run with the events (They really happened and he gets away with it and is remourseful he didn’t get caught, he’s schizophrenic, there were hallucination/dream sequences, etc) and they are all correct, because it’s whatever you want it to be.
IMO, Patrick Bateman at first kills in ways that he can get away with to satisfy his lust for violence, near the end he begins to lose his mind and has an episode of some kind, the last 10~20 minutes are very ambiguous.
Kind of like Donnie Darko, except even the director had no idea what was going on in that movie (Seriously, Robert Kelly had no fuckin clue lol).

It isn’t like Darko at all. Darko was gay. American Psycho was good and NOT gay. So no. It is nothing like Darko.
remember the secretary finding his notebook i think he drew out all the violence as he imagined it in his head
he really thought it happened but really it was just his drawings
