‘A Sound of Thunder’
A Sound of Thunder (Sept. 2) The first clip here filled me with dread, especially when I saw the logo of schlock factory Franchise Pictures at the beginning. My fears — that the film would turn Ray Bradbury’s elegant little tale of the dangers of time travel into a big, dumb action spectacle — seemed to be confirmed by the presence of lots of CGI monsters that looked less scary than Ben Kingsley’s hairpiece. (What is that thing, a giant meringue?) At least the second clip looks more like an adventure and less like a paleontology thesis; all that science chatter is going to be a distraction from the action anyway. If you’re going to be big and dumb, be big and dumb.
